From Scott Dworkin: ICE says it arrested 574 people in Oregon from February through July. Over about the same stretch, it reported just 13 arrests made without a warrant. On paper, almost everything was by the book. Those numbers didn’t sit right with us, so we dug in.
We went through federal Judge Mustafa Kasubhai’s 50-page ruling line by line and put ICE’s paperwork next to what its own officer said under oath. One arrest report said agents had identified a construction worker from Medford and had a warrant before they stopped him at a lake. On the stand, the officer admitted he didn’t even know the man existed when they stopped the car. Another report said a parent had no ties to the community. The same report said that parent’s child serves in the Marines.
The judge called it what it is: the officer “lied in an official record.”
