American Justice

To: Sen. Scott, Rep. Webster, Gov. DeSantis, Rep. Temple, Pres. Trump, Sen. Moody, Sen. Ingoglia

I am writing to express my deep concern regarding Kilmar Abrego Garcia's treatment and Pam Bondi's troubling statement, “This is what American justice looks like.” American justice? First, you target him for deportation to a foreign prison, which would be a blatant violation of the Eighth Amendment. Then you refuse to allow him the right of Habeas Corpus and sentence him to prison without due process. Would that not violate Article I, Section 9, Clause 2 of the Constitution? This is Justice? Secretary Bondi stood before the American people and made that statement as if it were true, and it is nothing more than in-your-face lying, gaslighting. We all know that the Supreme Court has demanded that you bring this man back to America so that justice could, in fact, be done. The president of El Salvador has nothing to do with this. This was our president’s call and his call alone. Reports today prove just that. Stop the gaslighting. The treatment of individuals within our justice system should reflect the core values of fairness, dignity, and respect for human rights. Reports about Mr. Garcia’s situation raise serious ethical and legal questions about your actions. Our justice system must be just and perceived as such by all citizens and the world. The world is watching us. What about the hundreds of people, some US citizens, who have also been captured and shipped off to foreign prisons? They have not had the same ’justice’ that the Supreme Court has afforded Mr. Garcia. They now must hire lawyers and fight their cases all the way to the Supreme Court before you are forced to allow ‘justice’ for those people? This is shameful and will be a black mark on our history. Why? So, can Stephen Miller fulfill some hateful fantasy? This cannot continue. We are better than this. Most Americans do not like what is happening. Statements that condone or downplay injustices can undermine public trust and confidence in our institutions. That is happening now. We must strive for a justice system that serves all Americans impartially and with compassion. I don't want to live in fear in my own country, but that is what is being set up here.
