Progressive council member Nithya Raman pulled ahead of Republican reality star Spencer Pratt as mail ballots got counted, the same way California counts ballots every single election. State law allows ballots postmarked by Election Day to arrive up to a week later. That's not fraud. That's making sure every legal vote counts. But a Republican losing in one of the bluest cities in America apparently requires a federal response. Trump called the race rigged on Truth Social. His handpicked prosecutor in LA announced "multiple election fraud investigations" with zero specifics and sent an attorney into the county's ballot counting center. Pratt claimed homeless people were illegally voting for his opponent. No evidence for any of it. This is the playbook now. When Republicans win, elections are sacred. When they lose, the count itself becomes a crime scene. Johnson says he wants to "remove the appearance of impropriety." Here's a thought: stop manufacturing it. Stop sending federal prosecutors after election workers doing their jobs. Stop telling Americans their neighbors' mail ballots are theft. Every vote counted is a voter heard. They know that. That's exactly what scares them.
