Demand Accountability: Ending the Abuse of Executive Pardons

To: Rep. Bergman, Sen. Peters, Sen. Slotkin

From: A constituent in Beulah, MI

April 11

I am writing to demand immediate legislative action to protect our democracy from two growing threats: the "Techno-Oligarchy" and the unchecked abuse of presidential pardon powers. Currently, wealthy elites are using their fortunes to bypass the 99%, implementing massive infrastructure changes—like widespread AI and robotics—without a single public vote. Simultaneously, the President’s pardon power is being used as a shield to protect co-conspirators and administration officials from the rule of law. This is not progress; it is an abandonment of democratic consent. I demand that Congress support the following "Guardrail" reforms: 1 The Pardon Integrity Act: No President should be allowed to pardon themselves, their family, or their co-conspirators. 2 Criminal Consequences for "Corrupt" Pardons: Clarify that a pardon is a "thing of value." If a pardon is issued to silence a witness or reward a donor, it must be prosecuted as bribery and obstruction of justice. 3 Public Oversight for Infrastructure: No private entity should be allowed to fundamentally alter public infrastructure or deploy autonomous technology without a democratic mandate or a public referendum. 4 End the "Move Fast and Break Things" Immunity: Implement severe financial and criminal penalties for individuals who use illegal Executive Orders to bypass regulatory oversight. We must stop the trend of the rich and powerful making "inevitable" changes to our world without the consent of the people. No one is above the law—not a billionaire, and not a President.
