Demand Trump's Unauthorized White House Ballroom Be Torn Down

To: Sen. Murray, Sen. Cantwell, Pres. Trump, Rep. DelBene

From: A verified voter in Bothell, WA

August 22

Demand a commitment to tear down Trump's unauthorized White House ballroom and restore the East Wing. Two federal courts — including a district court and a 2-1 appeals panel — ruled that Congress never authorized this construction. Judge Richard Leon put it plainly: "No statute comes close to giving the President the authority he claims to have." Chief Justice Roberts overrode both rulings with a single sentence so the concrete could keep rising. That's not law. That's a cover-up. This project was sold to the public as a $400 million privately funded ballroom. It's now a $600 million "military complex" — half of it billed to taxpayers — with justifications that shift whenever the last one falls apart. The appeals court was right: Congress never "ceded unfettered authority to the executive branch to dramatically redesign, reshape and reconstruct the White House." The next Democratic administration must make restoring the White House — East Wing, Rose Garden, and all — a day-one priority. Anything less is accepting that one president can permanently deface the People's House for personal vanity.
