I'm writing to urge you to reject the cuts to NASA and the National Science Foundation in the proposed FY27 budget request. The proposal from OMB would slash NASA's Science Mission Directorate by 47%, terminate over 40 missions, eliminate NASA's Office of STEM Engagement, and deeply cut NSF. NASA is in the middle of delivering on decades of investment. The Roman Space Telescope launches this year. Dragonfly and NEO Surveyor are progressing toward launch. Artemis is sending astronauts back to the Moon. Slashing science funding now doesn't just cancel future plans, it wastes the billions already spent getting here and drives away talented people who make it all work. Congress rejected nearly identical cuts last year with strong bipartisan support, and just last month over 100 House members signed a letter calling for increased NASA science funding. This proposal ignores that consensus entirely. Other nations are rapidly expanding their ambitions, and the country that sustains its investment in science will set the pace for the 21st century. Gutting NASA's budget hands that leadership away. I'm counting on you to ensure FY27 appropriations provide stable, adequate funding for NASA Science, STEM education, and foundational research. These programs have broad public support and deliver real results, including in our state.
