Stop the $1.776 Billion Slush Fund for January 6 Rioters

To: Sen. Peters, Rep. Walberg, Sen. Slotkin

From: A verified voter in Stevensville, MI

May 19

Congress needs to shut down the Trump administration's $1.776 billion fund before another dollar goes out the door. This money — chosen as a deliberate nod to 1776 — was never approved by a judge. It's a direct transfer of taxpayer funds orchestrated between Trump and Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, with five administrators given total discretion to pay out to whoever they choose. No transparency. No public input. No oversight. Former DOJ pardon attorney Liz Oyer confirmed all of this. The people first in line to collect are January 6 rioters — individuals who beat Capitol Police officers and tried to overturn a legitimate election. Meanwhile, the families of the officers who were beaten and killed that day have received nothing. You watched what happened on January 6. Every member of Congress did. Rewarding those attackers with taxpayer millions isn't anti-weaponization — it's legitimizing the assault on the government you serve in. Silence on this is a choice, and your constituents are watching you make it.
