Reject Medicaid Cuts for Seniors in Long-Term Care: Vulnerable Americans

March 29
Our mom worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant for more than 35 years. She took care of people in nursing homes and hospitals—helping them bathe, eat, and stay comfortable when they were sick or dying. It was hard, physical work. But it never paid enough for her to raise four boys independently and save for retirement or long term care. Her modest house was the only thing she owned. When her dementia got worse, and she needed full-time care, her savings and home only covered about 10 months in a nursing home. After that, her Social Security check didn’t even pay 10% of the bill.
Now, she depends on Medicaid. Without it, she couldn’t stay in long-term care. And she’s not alone. Most people in nursing homes rely on Medicaid. The Commonwealth Fund (March 2025) says about two-thirds of residents in nursing homes use Medicaid to pay for their care. Cutting this program would push people like our mom out of the care they need. It would also hurt thousands of families trying to care for elderly, sick, or disabled loved ones.
Medicaid is not a handout. It’s a safety net for people who worked hard in jobs that didn’t pay enough. These are teachers, nurses, grocery store workers, cleaners. They paid taxes. They helped build this country. They don’t deserve to be left behind when they need help the most.
If you cut Medicaid, it will hurt seniors and their families. Without this help, many people will have to quit their jobs or go into debt to care for their parents or grandparents. The Kaiser Family Foundation says Medicaid is the most significant funding source for long-term care in the U.S. Taking it away would put millions at risk.
We’re asking you to protect Medicaid. Please don’t turn your back on people who depend on it to survive. These cuts are dangerous and will hurt real people in every part of this country. Please do the right thing—stand up and fight for them. We’re counting on you.
