Stop cuts to NOAA research funding

To: Sen. Slotkin, Rep. Scholten, Sen. Peters

From: A constituent in Ada, MI

April 18

The proposed budget cuts for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) would severely undermine the agency's vital research capabilities and jeopardize its ability to fulfill its mission of understanding and predicting changes in climate, weather, oceans, and coasts. NOAA's research is critical for maintaining accurate weather forecasting, monitoring climate change, and managing sustainable fisheries. Slashing funds for NOAA's Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research by nearly 75% would decimate the agency's climate and weather research programs, cooperative research centers, and satellite development efforts. This would set back American scientific capabilities by decades and leave the nation ill-prepared to address the challenges posed by a changing climate and extreme weather events. NOAA's research is essential for protecting lives, property, and the environment. We urge you to fully fund NOAA's research operations and reject the proposed cuts that would undermine the agency's vital work. Robust investment in NOAA's research is necessary to ensure the nation has the scientific knowledge and tools to mitigate and adapt to the impacts of climate change and severe weather.
