Stop the trade war

To: Sen. Hagerty, Rep. Rose, Sen. Blackburn

From: A constituent in Rickman, TN

February 2

The escalating trade war with Canada, Mexico, and China will have severe economic consequences for the United States. Imposing steep tariffs on imports from our closest trading partners is misguided and will ultimately harm American consumers and businesses. The retaliatory tariffs announced by these countries in response will further exacerbate the situation, leading to higher prices for everyday goods and disrupting critical supply chains. Rather than doubling down on protectionist policies, the administration should pursue negotiations to resolve trade disputes through diplomatic channels. Unilaterally raising tariffs will only breed more conflict and economic turmoil. The costs of this trade war will be borne by American families in the form of higher prices and reduced purchasing power. I urge you to reconsider this destructive course of action and instead prioritize policies that promote free and fair trade. Open markets and economic cooperation benefit all nations involved. Dialogue and compromise, not escalating tariffs, are the path forward to resolving trade issues in a sustainable manner. The dumbest trade war in history, as the Wall Street Journal described it, must be halted before it inflicts further self-inflicted harm on the American economy and people.
