Oppose the Sale and Exploitation of Public Lands

To: Sen. Schiff, Rep. Simon, Sen. Padilla

From: A constituent in Oakland, CA

April 7

I need you to oppose the reorganization of the U.S. Forest Service, repeal the H.R. 1 provisions accelerating the sale of public lands to oil and gas companies, and block the repeal of regulations protecting lands and wildlife from mining, drilling, and logging. Over 175 million acres of U.S. land are now at risk of sale or destruction. Moving the Forest Service headquarters to Utah and closing research facilities in 31 states has crippled the agency's ability to manage 154 national forests. Rescinding the Roadless Area Conservation Rule opened 59 million acres to increased logging. H.R. 1 has put over 1.3 million acres of Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge up for auction for oil and gas drilling. Historically protected lands including Minnesota's Boundary Waters, New Mexico's Greater Chaco region and Upper Pecos River, and Nevada's Ruby Mountains are now targeted for extraction. These lands belong to the American people, not the fossil fuel industry. I expect you to defend them.
