For the first time ever I am ashamed at being an American. President Trump, with a barrage of executive orders, is rapidly turning the US into a right-wing, nationalist country fueled by greed and hate. He is blatantly ignoring even the most basic and fundamental parts of the Constitution, attempting to redefine natural born citizenship, using the military against civilians, destroying due process, eliminating the rights of trans citizens, imposing tariffs that will only hurt the US economy, pardoning even the most violent perpetrators of the attempted January 6 coup, and no one knows where he will stop. These are NOT the actions of a man upholding the Constitution and protecting the US from enemies foreign and domestic. In fact, his actions are clearly aimed at destroying everything the Constitution stands for and represents. I am very afraid that the system of checks and balances where both the legislative and judicial branches are to serve as a check on the executive will NOT prevent President Trump from ignoring the Constitution. In fact, the Supreme Court has given full immunity to the President for any official acts and clearly President Trump intents on using his unchecked powers to turn our great nation in to a pariah, a standalone nation without allies. He is actively destroying our economic relationships with our Canadian and Mexican neighbors and friends. He is removing us from agreements to ensure the planet remains hospitable for human life for generations, he is empowering our foes to do whatever they wish without repercussion. It is my strong belief that with the inauguration of President Trump, the United States has failed in its goal to be a more perfect union. Unless checked and restrained, there is nothing that President Trump can't do, even if it means obliterating the very fabric of what makes the United States the best country in the world. Looking back on history, the last time a man took control of a powerful nation and did not have his powers checked, Adolf Hitler took control of Europe and murdered millions of innocent men, women, and children, and engaged in a World War that devastated Germany and Europe. We, the ordinary citizens of the US, will be the ones that suffer from President Trump's unchecked power. He will destroy the economy for the benefit of himself and the oligarchs that support him. Congress must do everything in its power to limit the actions of President Trump over the next four years. Hopefully when his current term as President comes to an end, there will be free elections and a leader truly for the people will be elected. Hopefully he will gracefully step down and not ignite a second attempt at a coup d'etat. Sadly, I highly doubt that he will permit such an election to occur. It is my belief that Congress and the Supreme Court will do NOTHING to save our country, NOTHINH to save the Constitution.
