Support the Dream Act of 2025 to Protect Young Immigrants

December 12

I urge you to support the Dream Act of 2025, the bipartisan immigration bill introduced by Senators Richard Durbin and Lisa Murkowski on December 4, 2025. This legislation offers a practical, permanent solution for approximately 2.5 million young people who were brought to the United States as children and know no other home. The Dream Act addresses a fundamental question of fairness. These young people, including nearly 525,000 current DACA recipients and 2 million additional eligible Dreamers, were brought here through no choice of their own. Many have no memory of their birth countries. The bill also protects 250,000 Documented Dreamers, children of visa holders who aged out of their parent's status at age 21 despite following every legal requirement. This legislation reflects core American values while delivering concrete economic benefits. Dreamers currently contribute approximately $65 billion annually to the U.S. economy and pay $18 billion in combined federal, payroll, state, and local taxes. The bill establishes a rigorous two-step pathway requiring background checks, proof of good moral character, educational achievement or military service, English proficiency, and knowledge of American history and government. These requirements ensure that recipients earn their status through demonstrated commitment to this country. The Dream Act also provides the legislative stability that DACA has never had. While DACA has faced ongoing legal challenges that leave recipients in constant uncertainty, this bipartisan bill would create permanent protections through the democratic process. It allows young people who have grown up as Americans to pursue education, serve in the military, work legally, and contribute fully to their communities without fear of deportation to countries they don't remember. I ask you to support this legislation because it aligns with both American principles of fairness and the practical interests of our communities and economy. These young people deserve the opportunity to reach their full potential as contributing members of American society.
