I’m writing today to discourage you from supporting HB945. I stand opposed to the creation of any new law enforcement agencies. The weaponization of law enforcement against all citizens for the stated purposes of catching criminals is unacceptable. Allowing anyone to analyze the general population’s patterns of life is an affront to the 1st amendment. Small government doesn’t involve itself in the minutiae of its citizens daily lives. This Bill would allow it.
We have already witnessed in the past year how the Federal government has weaponized ICE against Immigrants (illegal and legal) as well as protestors who have taken to the streets in opposition to the methodology of a poorly trained Brute Squad. Floridian do not want OUR government interfering in the lives of our citizens or anyone on American soil. The vast majority of Americans want our government to be respectful of all people, even if they have committed a crime. Human dignity and decency is up to us. We should not allow our law enforcement personnel to conduct themselves in similar form to that of criminals. Not only do our elected officials need to remember who they work for, but our law enforcement officers as well.
Not too long ago the Supreme Court ruled that law enforcement officers could lie to suspects in order to extract confessions. Today they not only lie to close cases, but they also lie to protect themselves from their lapses in professionalism, including those made maliciously. When you allow law enforcement so much latitude that it is difficult to differentiate between the good and bad guys. No law enforcement officers should be killing people over traffic violations, or shoplifting or any crime that would not result in a death penalty if tried and found guilty.
