I share Representative Ocasio-Cortez's deep concerns over the detention of Mahmoud Khalil, a legal permanent U.S. resident, by ICE without due process or access to legal representation. This alarming violation of fundamental constitutional rights sets a dangerous precedent that threatens the liberties of all Americans. If the government can disappear a green card holder without cause or justification, it undermines the rule of law and erodes cherished freedoms that citizens take for granted. We must forcefully resist such egregious overreach and demand transparency and accountability from government agencies. The preservation of civil liberties, due process, and freedom of speech are foundational pillars that we cannot allow to be further eroded by unchecked government power. This blatant disregard for Khalil's legal status is an affront to the constitutional principles our nation was built upon. Addressing this injustice should be a non-partisan priority for all who value these fundamental rights and want to uphold America's democratic ideals.
