Release Torres Maldonado

To: Sen. Duckworth, Rep. Krishnamoorthi, Sen. Durbin

From: A verified voter in Schaumburg, IL

October 21, 2025

I am writing to urgently request your assistance in advocating for the release of Mr. Torres Maldonado, who was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) this past weekend and is currently being held at the Broadview detention center. Mr. Maldonado’s continued detention is causing deep harm to his family, particularly his daughter Ofelia, who is currently undergoing treatment for cancer. While Ofelia receives medical care, Mr. Maldonado has played a critical role as the primary caregiver for her sibling. His absence during this time of medical and emotional crisis places tremendous strain on the family and poses a serious risk to their well-being. I urge you to take action and work with ICE and the appropriate federal authorities to negotiate Mr. Maldonado’s release on humanitarian grounds. His presence is urgently needed at home to provide support, stability, and care for his children during this unimaginably difficult time. Please consider the compassionate and necessary steps that must be taken to reunite this family. Thank you for your time and your attention to this deeply important matter. I am hopeful that with your support, Mr. Maldonado can return to his family without delay.
