I'm writing in opposition to the reintroduction of KOSA and to oppose the Interstate Obscenity Definition Act as well. Both these bills will do nothing to protect children but will create opportunities to largely censor free speech and expression for adults. Congress has shown a chilling willingness to ignore less invasive options for keeping children safe from harm. They have also not inquired about them nor have the parents supporting these bills considered that the other bills passed to 'protect children' have had little to no impact on safety or crime. I would like to posit this argument against KOSA, TAKE IT DOWN, SESTA, FOSTA and the newest bill , the Interstate Obscenity Definition Act: Child sexual assault, CSEM, CSAM, exploitation, trafficking, abuse, grooming, malnutrition, and suicide did NOT decline when these bills passed into law. The middle East and China have the heaviest censorship regime in place, and yet blocking or banning pornography and adult content did not stop the oppression and abuse of women. Children are being trafficked in and from countries with antiporn censorship friendly governments. Making it harder for anyone to use the Internet will not keep anyone safe. Note that no one is arguing for harm to be done to children. We all want kids to be safe online and offline. Which is why these bills and laws are so ineffective. They block and censor, they don't actually protect kids. Bills like these offer a calming placebo effect to concerned and hurt parents. But that's all they will ever be: placebos and sugar pills. Real solutions can be found that don't involve bills like this. Please oppose them.
