A general strike may be our only hope. PLEASE HELP US.

To: Sen. Schumer, Rep. Tonko, Sen. Gillibrand

From: A constituent in Latham, NY

August 1

I write to you today as a concerned constituent who is witnessing firsthand the increasing hardship faced by working Americans across this country. Prices for essentials—housing, food, utilities, healthcare—continue to rise sharply, while wages remain stagnant and safety nets are being stripped away. Millions of families are living paycheck to paycheck, and for many, even full-time work is no longer enough to survive without government assistance. Yet, even as these systems of support are being weakened, the cost of simply existing in this country becomes more unbearable. Rent and mortgages are outpacing incomes. Grocery bills have skyrocketed. Medical debt is now a leading cause of bankruptcy. And despite this, many policies continue to prioritize corporate profit over public well-being. The wealth disparity in this country is comparable to that of pre-revolution France, and that is UNACCEPTABLE. This growing economic injustice cannot be ignored. It is not a partisan issue—it is a human one. That is why I believe it is time for the party leaders to organize and promote a general strike: a unified, peaceful, and powerful demonstration to demand fair wages, affordable housing, accessible healthcare, and a basic standard of dignity for all. We must have a general strike—not out of recklessness, but out of necessity. It is a response to years of unmet needs, unfulfilled promises, and unheeded warnings. The American people are resilient, but we should not be forced to accept systemic inequality as an inevitability. We NEED political leaders or a nationwide group (ACLU?) to organize a massive general strike. Clearly you are getting nowhere "the old-fashioned way" on Capitol Hill. A drastic measure such as a general strike is absolutely necessary for any change to occur. If you do not act, nothing will change and the American people will continue to suffer while the rich get richer. A general strike may be our only hope. PLEASE HELP US.
