Please give back funding to the National Weather Service

To: Gov. Abbott, Rep. Hopper, Lt. Gov. Patrick, Sen. Hagenbuch

From: A constituent in Denton, TX

July 6

I am heart broken seeing what is happening in Texas with the flooding of the Guadeloupe River. I myself attended church camps along that river every summer as a kid. I live near where some of the flooding happened but thankfully was not effected by the flood. I am very concerned with the fact that this happened right after President Trump's defunding of the National Weather Service, which let go over 600 employees. The head officials at the National Weather Service told us that events like this would happen if they were denied funding and lacked employees. You, the law makers and elected officials, did not listen. Now almost 50 people are dead, 27 missing. This is a direct effect of the National Weather Service not having the funding and staff to do its job. There was only a 30% chance of rain that night. There was no warning because the warning systems we had in place were taken away. Please, for the sake of all of us, advocate for the re-funding and support of the National Weather Service. If you don't, this will happen again. Weather doesn't care how much money you have, who you voted for, or the color of your skin. It will come for us all. Please save us.
