The tariffs imposed by Pres. Trump are going to result in extreme hardship for everyday Americans. This is not just my opinion; this is the conclusion of economists. Those of us who live paycheck to paycheck are not able to withstand the kind of financial meltdown that is the likely result of these tariffs. And since a large majority of East Tennessee fall into that category, supporting these tariffs is actively working against your constituents. According to data USA, in 2023 East Tennessee had a poverty rate of 15.8%, the median household income $56-66,000 yearly. That means the people represented by Marsha Blackburn and Bill Hagerty in the US Senate, and Chuck Fleischman in the US House cannot withstand a hard financial downturn. Please consider the people you represent, and please do not say that Tennesseans support this when nobody has ever talked to us and asked what we think. Please advise when the next town hall will be so we can ask questions.
