Protect Intel's Ohio investment, uphold CHIPS Act

To: Sen. Husted, Sen. Moreno, Rep. Latta

From: A constituent in Lorain, OH

March 6

President Trump's comments calling for the repeal of the CHIPS Act directly contradict the interests of Ohio and the commitment Intel has made to the state. The CHIPS Act provided crucial funding to incentivize Intel's historic $20 billion investment in building semiconductor manufacturing facilities in Ohio. While Intel initially stated their plans were not contingent on the CHIPS Act funding, the $7.86 billion in subsidies they are set to receive played a key role in accelerating this massive project. Dismantling the CHIPS Act would undermine years of bipartisan efforts to reinvigorate domestic semiconductor production and reduce reliance on foreign sources, particularly from China. This jeopardizes not only the economic impacts of Intel's investment but also national security interests. Ohio leaders from Governor DeWine to Senator Husted have affirmed their commitment to the CHIPS Act and Intel's plans, understanding the project's importance for Ohio's economy and technological leadership. Rather than repeal measures that directly benefit Ohio manufacturing and innovation, we should uphold the CHIPS Act's funding to ensure the timely completion of Intel's semiconductor facilities. This investment represents a monumental opportunity to cement Ohio's position at the forefront of a critical industry. Revoking support now would send the wrong signal and potentially deter other companies from making transformative investments in the state. I urge maintaining the CHIPS Act to safeguard Ohio's economic future.
