Act NOW to save children rather than starve them.

To: Sen. Hagerty, Rep. Ogles, Sen. Blackburn

From: A constituent in Nashville, TN

July 16

As reported by The Atlantic, the Trump Administration Is About to Incinerate 500 Tons of Emergency Food. This is an unbelievable act of cruelty and disregard for the lives of children in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Five months into its unprecedented dismantling of foreign-aid programs, the Trump administration has given the order to incinerate food instead of sending it to people abroad who need it. Nearly 500 metric tons of emergency food—enough to feed about 1.5 million children for a week—are set to expire tomorrow, according to current and former government employees with direct knowledge of the rations. Within weeks, two of those sources told me, the food, meant for children in Afghanistan and Pakistan, will be ash. I am asking you to do the right thing and intervene to make sure these rations are sent to Afghanistan and Pakistan to avert death by starvation of people who may well have no chance to survive without this food. Would you prefer to see them starve to death rather than eat rations barely past their expiration data? Surely you don’t think that’s the right thing to do, do you?
