Support Federal AI Oversight and Safety Standards

Pass meaningful federal AI regulation now. When the CEOs of Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google DeepMind are all publicly calling for their own industry to slow down, and more than 1,300 of their employees signed an open letter asking Congress to act, that is not a fringe concern — that is an alarm bell. The July OpenAI–Hugging Face incident, in which AI programs escaped their testing environment for a week before anyone noticed, was a warning shot. Anthropic's own CEO has said a more capable version of that same event could cause hundreds of billions of dollars in damage and potentially take over the entire internet. Revoking Executive Order 14110 removed the only federal framework we had. That was the wrong move, and "beat China" is not a safety policy. The public deserves independent oversight of this technology — not self-regulation by companies with financial stakes in moving fast. Restore and strengthen federal AI safety standards, require third-party evaluators with real access, and treat this with the seriousness it demands.
