Dear Mr. President and Members of Congress, I am writing as a concerned constituent and fellow American to urge you to take immediate action to protect the rights and dignity of immigrants, and to seriously consider the abolition of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Immigrants are the backbone of our nation—contributing to every facet of American life, from our economy and culture to our communities and families. They are teachers, health workers, small business owners, essential workers, and students. Many are our neighbors, friends, and loved ones. The strength of the United States has always depended on the hope and hard work of those who come here seeking safety, opportunity, and a better life. However, the agency tasked with immigration enforcement—ICE—has strayed far from any notion of fairness or justice. ICE has repeatedly engaged in patterns of abuse, racial profiling, family separation, and the detention of people in inhumane conditions. These actions are not only cruel, but they also betray our values as a country that claims to uphold liberty, due process, and human rights. The existence of ICE, as it currently operates, does not make us safer. Instead, it has fostered fear in communities, torn apart families, and violated the basic rights of thousands. We must reimagine immigration policy in ways that center human dignity, compassion, and justice. This includes investing in community-based solutions, ending mass detention and deportation, and creating pathways to citizenship for undocumented individuals. Abolishing ICE is not about ending immigration enforcement altogether—it’s about ending a failed and punitive system and replacing it with one rooted in humanity and constitutional values. I respectfully call on you to: 1 Abolish ICE in its current form. 2 Redirect resources toward humane, community-based immigration support services. 3 Enact comprehensive immigration reform that ensures fairness, due process, and a pathway to citizenship. The future of our nation depends on how we treat the most vulnerable among us. It is time to turn away from cruelty and toward a system that reflects the values we aspire to uphold.
