Oppose FBI Reassignment to Immigration Enforcement

To: Rep. Casar, Sen. Cruz, Sen. Cornyn

From: A constituent in Manor, TX

May 5

I need you to oppose the reassignment of more than 6,500 FBI employees to immigration enforcement and demand these agents return to their core mission of investigating serious crimes. Since January 2025, approximately 25 percent of the FBI's workforce has been pulled from counter-terrorism, child-exploitation investigations, and corporate-fraud probes to vet visa applicants' social media and accompany ICE on workplace raids. This represents a 23-fold increase in immigration staffing over nine months. The FBI exists to investigate terrorism, protect children from predators, and prosecute white-collar criminals. Adequate checks are already in place for immigration vetting. This massive diversion creates dangerous blind spots in criminal investigations. Vetting social media profiles and analyzing biometric data are not what FBI agents trained for, and pulling them from their specialized work leaves real threats unaddressed. Congressional Democrats have requested an inspector-general review, but we need immediate action to reverse this politicization of federal law enforcement. Restore the FBI's resources to its traditional mandate. The bureau should investigate crimes, not serve as backup staff for immigration agencies.
