Investigate Abuse at Brasile South Louisiana ICE Facility — Free Dana Now

To: Rep. Barrett, Sen. Peters, Sen. Slotkin

From: A verified voter in Fenton, MI

August 3

Demand an immediate investigation into the Brasile South Louisiana ICE Processing Facility, where women have been held for months, separated from their families and children, and are now being physically threatened and hit for speaking out. One detainee, Dana, has been placed in solitary confinement as punishment for making a video documenting conditions there. That is retaliation against someone exercising a basic human right, and it needs to stop now. The abuse at this facility does not exist in a vacuum. ICE and CBP have been hiring agents since last year who are not passing the same background checks or meeting the same standards as before. Reporting from The New Republic has documented that a number of these new hires have alleged sex crimes against children on their records. These are the people now in charge of vulnerable women and children in detention. That is not a coincidence — it is a systemic failure that your office has the power to address. Find out where Dana is, ensure her safety, and push for the release of the women at Brasile who are being held in these conditions. Order a full investigation into hiring practices at ICE and DHS, and demand accountability for every agent with a violent or criminal history who was waved through. These women are asking for help. I expect you to answer.
