Protect Our Medical Data and Respect Neurodiversity
To: Sen. Murray, Rep. Strickland, Sen. Cantwell
From: A constituent in Olympia, WA
April 24
I am reaching out as a constituent as I have urgent concerns regarding Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s reported creation of an autism database that collects sensitive medical and behavioral data—apparently without proper consent or oversight. These actions not only constitute a gross invasion of medical privacy, but also raise alarming ethical questions, particularly regarding the treatment and portrayal of autistic children. Adding to this concern is Kennedy’s hiring of David Geier, an individual previously sanctioned for the unethical handling of patient data and for practicing medicine without a license. Unless you count his father’s medical license which was revoked for misrepresenting data. The decision to involve Geier in any project related to autism or health data is deeply troubling and suggests a reckless disregard for established medical and ethical standards. Knowing that Geier treated children with a drug used in chemical castration, when there was no other “on label” use for the drug is perhaps the most alarming. Has our country really descended to the likes of Mengele? Reports suggest that the data being collected may be used to support discredited theories linking vaccines to autism—narratives that have already caused substantial harm to public health and to the autistic community. Using vulnerable children and their families as tools to promote such misinformation is not advocacy—it is exploitation. The creation of a private autism database without strict ethical oversight, proper consent protocols, and transparency is a clear violation of privacy rights. It also risks further stigmatizing autistic individuals by treating their existence as a problem to be solved rather than a population deserving support, respect, and self-determination. RFK’s assessment that autistic individuals do not meaningfully contribute to society is an egregious misrepresentation of an entire segment of our society. Autistic people deserve to be protected from exploitation, and all individuals’ medical information must remain secure, consensually gathered, and legally protected. This is not a partisan issue—it is a human rights issue. I urge your office to take all steps available to ensure our private medical data is kept private and that we stop any and all attempts to exploit our autistic community members. It’s bad enough having a remarkably unqualified person as RFK Jr. running DHHS, but hiring David Geier is an atrocity against Americans. Please fight back. Our dignity and our lives depend on it.
