Block the Trump "Truth and Justice Commission" Slush Fund

To: Sen. Cornyn, Sen. Cruz, Rep. Casar

From: A constituent in Manor, TX

May 18

Block this $1.776 billion taxpayer-funded slush fund before it's finalized. The DOJ is negotiating a deal to create a "President Donald J. Trump Truth and Justice Commission" — a compensation fund bankrolled by my tax dollars, structured so Trump can remove its commissioners without cause and with no obligation to disclose how funds are awarded. That's not justice. That's a blank check with no accountability. The legal problems alone should be disqualifying. A court-appointed panel that included a former solicitor general and a federal judge warned that the defendants may be "operating at the President's direction." Even Republican Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick has questioned its legality. The DOJ already abandoned one scheme to pay Trump directly — this is just a repackaged version of the same corrupt arrangement, designed to benefit Trump's allies while bypassing any court oversight. Pass legislation now to prohibit taxpayer dollars from funding this commission. This deal hasn't been finalized yet — there's still time to stop it. Do your job and make sure it never is.
