Protect civil liberties, reject vast government data dragnet.

To: Rep. Bonamici, Sen. Wyden, Sen. Merkley

From: A constituent in Portland, OR

April 19

The creation of a vast, centralized database merging sensitive data from agencies like DHS, SSA, and the IRS poses an unconscionable threat to civil liberties and privacy rights. Consolidating information on immigration status, voting records, tax details, and biometrics under virtually no oversight enables unprecedented surveillance and tracking of millions of people, both citizens and non-citizens alike. This dragnet approach is ripe for abuse, mistakes, and the weaponization of personal data against vulnerable groups and perceived ideological enemies. Such a system has no place in a free society. I urge you to take immediate action to shut down this misguided effort and uphold fundamental American values of privacy, due process, and freedom from unwarranted government monitoring. Protecting civil liberties must be the paramount concern over any aspirations of enhanced data integration or efficiency.
