Replace Chuck Schumer as Senate Minority Leader
To: Sen. Warren, Sen. Markey
From: A constituent in Peabody, MA
November 10
I’m writing to urge you to support replacing Chuck Schumer as Senate Minority Leader.
Just days after Democrats won decisive victories in Tuesday’s elections, sweeping races in Virginia, New Jersey, and New York City as voters rejected the Trump agenda, Senate Democrats surrendered leverage in shutdown negotiations. After 40 days of a GOP-caused shutdown that was damaging Republicans politically, Schumer allowed Democrats to fold for an empty promise.
The deal provides only a “promise” of a December vote on extending expiring ACA tax credits—not the actual extension. Speaker Johnson has already refused to guarantee a House vote, making this commitment essentially worthless. Meanwhile, Senate Republicans secured full-year funding for their priorities while Democrats provided the votes to end a shutdown that was politically harming the GOP.
House Minority Leader Jeffries rightly refused to support legislation without the ACA extension. Yet Schumer stood aside while eight Democrats broke ranks to advance this inadequate deal, repaying voters’ strong mandate with capitulation.
This follows a troubling pattern. In March, Schumer led Democrats to prevent a shutdown without securing meaningful concessions. His repeated willingness to surrender when Democrats hold leverage undermines the victories voters delivered and fails to protect working families.
We need leadership that will fight for the priorities voters endorsed at the ballot box. Please support new leadership in the Senate Democratic Caucus.
