Oppose H.R. 2616 (Stopping Indoctrination and Protecting Kids Act)
I am a voting constituent writing to express my firm opposition to H.R. 2616. This legislation represents an overreach of federal authority into a domain that must remain a local and community-led decision: the education of our children.
Conditioning essential federal funding on compliance with a centralized mandate is an unacceptable use of financial leverage. Our local school boards and parents are best equipped to determine the curriculum and policies that reflect the values of their specific communities. Federal coercion through the threat of withholding resources undermines the very principle of local control.
Furthermore, the bill’s reliance on vague definitions creates a dangerous affront on free speech. Terms such as "gender ideology" lack the legal precision necessary to protect educators from arbitrary enforcement.
Most importantly, I am concerned about the bill's impact on the individual rights of students. By mandating the disclosure of private information, the government risks violating student privacy and autonomy. A commitment to liberty requires that we protect the individual rights of all students from unnecessary state intrusion.
I urge you to reject H.R. 2616 and support the preservation of local autonomy and individual freedom in education.
