I am writing to you with several concerns. I work for the Illinois Department of Child and Family Services, previously as an investigator of child abuse and neglect and now as a hotline call worker. I receive calls every day from families and children who are in need of support. Many of the families that are called in are on some sort of government assistance, whether it’s food stamps, medicaid, etc. With the budget cuts proposed by the house of representatives, many of the families I serve will be greatly affected. Many of the families, including children, will no longer be able to eat, find affordable housing and receive medical care. We call ourselves a Christian country and yet the policies that are being enacted very much go against the bible. Perhaps a way to pay for government assistance is to cut all subsidies of Elon Musk from Tesla to Space X. That would be a far better use of funds rather than it being in the hands of the billionaires. I will be keeping a close eye on the budget negotiations to make sure the budget reflects where the majority of Americans are in life. Finally, while the country voted for Donald Trump, it is clear that many Americans did not know the problems it would cause. As congress, you are the voice of the people and more and more people are unhappy with the direction of the government, especially since it’s being run by billionaires. Please reign in the current presidential administration so that it does not continue to destroy the lives of everyday Americans. I thank you for your time,
