Restoring Constitutional Accountability and National Stability
To: Sen. Schumer, Sen. Gillibrand
From: A constituent in Sloatsburg, NY
January 20
I am writing to you as a concerned constituent to express my deep alarm regarding the current direction of the Executive Branch. Donald Trump was elected on the explicit promise to extract the United States from "forever wars" and to prioritize our nation’s internal affairs. Regrettably, his recent actions demonstrate a flagrant betrayal of that mandate.
The President’s recent intervention in Venezuela—which includes the seizure of control over a foreign nation and the kidnapping of its leader—represents a dangerous shift toward the very foreign entanglements he pledged to avoid. This unauthorized escalation has already resulted in the tragic deaths of many civilians, creating a humanitarian and diplomatic crisis. Furthermore, his fixation on obtaining Greenland is now threatening the fundamental stability of the NATO alliance. By prioritizing the collection of personal power and the expansion of his own reach over established diplomatic norms, the President is acting more like a despot than a leader of a democracy.
If these actions are allowed to continue, the United States risks permanently souring the alliances and friendships that have kept the world safe for generations. The resulting damage to our nation’s reputation will be untold and potentially irreparable. This pattern of behavior is not limited to foreign soil; domestically, the President is utilizing his power to harm and threaten both citizens and residents alike, undermining the very people he is sworn to protect.
Our system of checks and balances was designed for this exact moment. The President must be reined in by the Legislative Branch immediately. If he continues to refuse to act in the best interests of the American people and the Constitution, he must be removed from office.
I urge you to take decisive action to ensure that the United States does not become a pariah on the world’s stage. We look to you to restore the integrity of our office and the safety of our republic.
