ICE in our communities

To: Gov. Shapiro, Sen. Fontana, Rep. Benham

From: A verified voter in Pittsburgh, PA

October 15

Hello. With the growing presence of ICE in our communities, I am extremely concerned for the safety of my neighbors and loved ones—not because they do not have citizenship, but because it doesn't seem to matter to ICE whether somebody is a citizen or not. There seems to be no protocol for arrests being made, agents do not identify themselves, people drive around in unmarked vehicles and prey on people for information. There is no reason to believe somebody when they say they are Immigration Enforcement. I am writing to ask: what can we do as citizens to prevent the chaos that is happening in Chicago right now? Will local law enforcement be of assistance to us if we see unlawful arrests being made? Will local police be involved with ICE? If somebody knocks on your door claiming to be ICE with no warrant and no identifying information, what do you do? Thank you for reading. I hope our lawmakers can speak to the public on how to handle these situations.
