Annex This: Texans Need Healthcare, Housing, and Roads — Not New Mexico

To: Sen. West, Gov. Abbott, Rep. Anchía, Lt. Gov. Patrick

From: A constituent in Dallas, TX

March 30

I am appalled that the Texas House Speaker is wasting the legislature’s time and taxpayer resources on a study to annex parts of New Mexico. This is an embarrassing distraction — a political stunt that serves no one in Texas and makes our state a national laughingstock. The Speaker has no business pursuing geographic fantasies while Texans are struggling. Our state faces real, urgent crises that demand the legislature’s attention. Healthcare costs continue to crush working families who are forced to choose between medical care and basic necessities. Homelessness is visibly worsening in our cities, with too few resources and too little political will to address root causes. And our roads, bridges, and water infrastructure are aging and underfunded, posing genuine risks to public safety. I urge you to use your voice in the House and Senate to push back on these distractions and demand the Speaker refocus on what Texans actually need — affordable healthcare, solutions to homelessness, and real infrastructure investment.
