When has this gone too far? I watched the videos from Minneapolis today and I saw a driver trying to get away from multiple armed ICE agents as they surrounded and tried to enter her vehicle. As she attempted to pull away from a complete standstill, moving only feet, an ICE agent shot her three times. He did not have to use force at all, much less deadly force. He could have stepped out of the way in a single stride. What could the driver have possibly done to elicit that fate? I note here that the administration has already labeled the driver, whoever she was, a terrorist.
We’ve crossed a line today. America is now a place where ICE is extended impunity for violating the rights—and the lives—of its citizens. Citizens now must accept ICE’s bigoted hate or face potentially lethal consequences for getting involved. That regrettably, seems to be where we are.
Congress must do everything in its power to pull us back over this line. Demand a pause on ICE activity. Rescind ICE funding (as Congress did to NPR’s). Impeach Noem for creating such a grossly reckless campaign unwarranted death and injury were inevitable. Its gone way too far.
