Demand for Accountability: Hegseth's Illegal Gutting of Civilian Protections Recent investigations expose that Secretary Hegseth has systematically defunded and gutted the Civilian Harm Mitigation and Response (CHMR) program by roughly 90 percent. This flagrant flouting of congressionally mandated oversight directly violates federal law and abandons decades of hard-learned operational lessons. This catastrophic failure of leadership has immediate, lethal consequences. The administration's aggressive, unaccountable doctrine has already driven a surge in civilian casualties across Somalia and Yemen, and contributed to a horrifying strike on an Iranian elementary school that killed over 150 students and teachers. Beyond the moral failure of these preventable civilian deaths, discarding these critical guardrails actively endangers our own service members by creating new enemies and decimating America’s global standing. Congress must not sit by while the Pentagon openly ignores the law. Use your full oversight authority to investigate this rogue leadership, restore civilian protection efforts, and demand absolute & expedient accountability for these reckless policies.
