I am writing to express my strong opposition to Kansas Senate Bill 76 (SB76), which seeks to target and discriminate against LGBTQ+ students while also creating unnecessary legal risks for our educators. As a concerned resident of Gardber, I urge you to reject this harmful legislation.
SB76 is an attack on the rights and dignity of LGBTQ+ students, who deserve a safe and supportive learning environment, free from discrimination. This bill would not only further marginalize these students but also create a hostile atmosphere in our schools, where every child should feel seen, valued, and protected.
Additionally, this legislation puts teachers at risk of frivolous lawsuits simply for doing their jobs—educating, supporting, and respecting all students. Instead of empowering educators to foster inclusive and respectful classrooms, SB76 would create fear, uncertainty, and potential legal repercussions for teachers who acknowledge or affirm LGBTQ+ students.
Rather than passing divisive legislation that isolates and harms our youth, I urge you to focus on policies that promote inclusion, respect, and the well-being of all Kansas students and educators. Our state should be a place where every child feels safe and every teacher is supported in their mission to educate without fear of legal retaliation.
I ask you to stand against discrimination and vote NO on SB76. Please consider the voices of your constituents who value equality, fairness, and the rights of all students and teachers. I appreciate your time and attention to this matter and look forward to your response.
