I am writing as your constituent, and I need more than a form letter back. I need to know what Congress is actually doing — right now — to protect the 2026 midterm election from a federal takeover.
This is not a hypothetical concern. President Trump has publicly and repeatedly stated he wants to "take over" elections and that the federal government "should get involved" in how states count their votes. Those are his words, not mine.
Last week, ProPublica reported that several high-ranking federal officials — including a White House lawyer and the DHS official in charge of election integrity — attended a summit convened by Michael Flynn. The stated goal of that gathering was to pressure the President to declare a national emergency in order to seize control of the 2026 midterms. These are not fringe voices. They are people embedded inside your government.
Meanwhile, the FBI has now issued subpoenas for voting records in Maricopa County, Arizona — following the administration's earlier seizure of 2020 election ballots from Fulton County, Georgia. Election officials are describing these actions as unprecedented. State laws govern chain of custody of ballots for good reason. Federal agents collecting those materials sets a deeply alarming precedent.
The Constitution is clear: election administration belongs to the states and to Congress — not to the executive branch acting alone. A leaked 17-page draft executive order would override virtually every aspect of how Americans vote, including eliminating most mail-in ballots and forcing 211 million registered voters to re-register in person.
So I am asking you directly: What specific legislation, legal challenge, or congressional action are you taking to stop this? Not a statement. Not a press release. What is Congress doing?
Your constituents are watching, and we expect an answer.
