Age verification is unsafe and insecure.

To: Sen. Warnock, Sen. Ossoff, Rep. Carter

I'm writing to ask you to oppose insecure AV laws. The supporters and authors of these laws fail to mention that age verification software is often exploited by bad actors and cybercriminals. These laws put children and their families at risk by forcing them to upload sensitive information like ID and, phone numbers and bank account info along with photos which are sold to unscrupulous data brokers and unregulated pirate sites that create CSAM and NCII. In Australia, the effects of age verification are becoming more apparent and more minors and adults have had their identity stolen because of age verification software than without it. It cannot be trusted to keep victims safe from doxxing, harassment, CSAM or exploitation. Device-based parental controls would be better suited to protect children and minors because they operate privately on the devices rather than on a broken public database. Please oppose age verification and anti-encryption laws for the safety of the kids and their families.
