I am writing to express my strong opposition to the recent executive order that strips independent agencies of their autonomy, placing them under direct control of the President. This unprecedented power grab threatens the integrity of our nation’s regulatory framework and dangerously consolidates authority in the executive branch. I urge you to take immediate action to push back against this unconstitutional overreach.
Independent agencies exist to provide expert, nonpartisan oversight in areas critical to the American people—financial markets, environmental protections, fair elections, and legal interpretations. Their ability to function without political interference is a cornerstone of our democracy, ensuring that policy decisions are driven by facts, expertise, and the public interest rather than partisan agendas. By granting the President direct control over these bodies, this order enables the White House to manipulate economic markets, undermine election security, weaken environmental protections, and skew legal interpretations to serve political objectives. This is not governance—it is authoritarianism.
Regardless of party affiliation, every member of Congress should recognize the dangerous precedent this sets. Today, it may serve the agenda of one administration, but tomorrow, it could empower another to erode fundamental rights, dismantle regulatory safeguards, or silence opposition. If left unchallenged, this order will fundamentally alter the balance of power in our government, rendering congressional oversight and judicial review meaningless.
I strongly urge you to take a stand against this order. Whether through legislation, legal challenges, or congressional inquiries, it is imperative that this power grab be reversed. Our democracy depends on checks and balances, not unilateral control.
