Oppose the administration’s plans to roll back fuel-efficiency standards.

To: Sen. Murray, Rep. Jayapal, Sen. Cantwell

From: A constituent in Seattle, WA

December 5

I ask you to immediately oppose the Trump administration’s rollback of federal fuel-efficiency standards, which will not only threaten the environment, but will also stress the family budgets of families across the country. Trump proposes slashing the fuel-efficiency target from 50 mpg to just 34 mpg by 2031. This means cars will burn substantially more fuel, raising costs for American drivers. It will also accord foreign automakers that will invest in more fuel-efficient vehicles a huge advantage over American manufacturers. If the U.S. forces its own companies to produce less efficient cars, we are deliberately handicapping American workers and undermining a vital U. S. industry. Congress must step in: • Hold immediate oversight hearings into the political pressure behind this rollback • Demand a full economic analysis of long-term consumer costs • Prevent this harmful rule from moving forward through legislative or budgetary action Please protect American families, American workers, and our nation’s long-term economic strength.
