Stop Murder and War

To: Sen. King, Rep. Pingree, Sen. Collins

From: A constituent in South Portland, ME

November 29

I am writing to express deep concern regarding recent reports of unlawful killings of individuals alleged to be drug smugglers at sea. The use of lethal force without due process represents a grave breach of both U.S. law and international norms. Such actions compromise the rule of law, diminish our global credibility, and set a dangerous precedent for extrajudicial measures by state actors.     Additionally, I urge Congress to take all necessary measures to prevent any escalation toward armed conflict with Venezuela. The United States must avoid initiating a war that is neither justified nor in the national interest. Diplomatic engagement, multilateral cooperation, and adherence to international law should remain the cornerstones of American foreign policy.     Congress bears the constitutional responsibility to ensure that military action is authorized only after rigorous debate, lawful justification, and consideration of long-term consequences. I respectfully request that you advocate for congressional oversight, demand full investigations into reported maritime killings, and oppose any unauthorized military actions in or against Venezuela.     Our nation’s commitment to justice, human rights, and lawful conduct must remain unwavering. I trust that you will act to uphold these principles and protect the interests of both the American people and global peace.     Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter.
