Act now: Israel must allow sufficient aid to enter Gaza. Ceasefire, now!

To: Sen. Gillibrand, Sen. Schumer, Rep. Clarke

From: A constituent in Brooklyn, NY

May 21

I am calling on you to ask that you do everything in your power to work towards putting pressure on the Israeli government to end the escalation of military violence and destruction of civilian life and infrastructure amid the unfolding crisis in Gaza. It is absolutely urgent that you demand a ceasefire, now, and that you call on Israel to allow humanitarian assistance into Gaza immediately. The only way forward is addressing the root causes of the violence. Only a cease fire and a committed peace process can achieve this. Like many Americans, I am absolutely horrified by the escalating hunger crisis, starvation, disease, lack of drinking water. By the prevention of medical aid entering and the destruction of remaining medical infrastructure that might help the most vulnerable populations. By the killing of health care workers and journalists. This has to stop. Only continued pressure of countries allied with Israel can achieve this. Lack of this pressure has emboldened members of Israel’s government to openly announce their plans of wholesale slaughter, destruction, and displacement of Palestinian populations from the Gaza Strip, putting these goals above the security of hostages and civilians. The international community cannot sit by idly. America needs to do better and show responsibility. Preventing children to starve to death is not too complex. As your constituent, I urge you to act. Now.
