I write to demand that you call for a leadership vote in the Senate. According to a recent CNN poll, Chuck Schumer’s approval rating is at 17%. This is no surprise. Chuck Schumer is clearly not equipped to lead in this current moment and he is unable to get the Democrats he leads to vote in a block. His plans for resisting Trump seem to lie in sending him a strongly-worded letter with eight questions. It’s embarrassing. The Democrats need to be a unified party of “No” against authoritarianism and Schumer has demonstrated repeatedly that he cannot get the job done.
If Democrats ever hope to regain the House and the Senate, they cannot be lead by a man who is so deeply unpopular that he garners a 17% approval rating. That in itself is a demand from the voters. No one will vote for a party lead by someone who is failing on every front. When it comes to approval ratings, Schumer is happy to make a big deal about Trump’s numbers and insist his low numbers are significant. But when pressed on his own numbers in the same poll, Schumer said, “Polls come and go.” So, which is it? Chuck Schumer needs to face the fact that voters are extremely unhappy with his leadership. If he will listen to them about Trump, he must also listen to them about himself. He needs to step down for the good of the party. If he will not, he must be voted out.
I ask that you will join with other Democrats in the Senate and write a letter calling for a leadership vote. There are several Democrats in the Senate who would do an excellent job. But, quite frankly, I’m less concerned with who should replace him. I am only concerned that he be replaced. There is no time to delay.
Please do your part.
