Oppose Health Care Cuts to Fund War and Immigration Enforcement

To: Sen. Slotkin, Sen. Peters, Rep. Barrett

From: A constituent in Brighton, MI

April 1

I'm asking you to oppose any health care cuts in the upcoming reconciliation bill, particularly those being considered to finance the Iran war and immigration enforcement. These cuts would harm real people to pay for policies that don't have broad public support. The proposal to change ACA cost-sharing reductions would leave 300,000 more Americans uninsured and increase out-of-pocket costs for people who already struggle to afford coverage. Reviving Medicaid work requirements and fraud provisions like those from last year's budget would strip coverage from vulnerable people who need it most. Limiting state Medicaid coverage creates a two-tiered system that undermines the program's core mission. This is an election year, and voters will remember who voted to take away their health care. The Congressional Budget Office confirms these changes would save money by reducing coverage and increasing costs for families. That's not fighting fraud. That's shifting the burden onto people who can least afford it. Vote no on any reconciliation bill that pays for war and enforcement by cutting health programs. Find another way to finance these priorities, or reconsider whether they're worth pursuing at all.
