Outlaw the LGBTQ “panic defense. In 2021 State Senator Comerford introduced a bill to curtail the use and effectiveness of these “panic defenses”. The bill died in committee. That is unacceptable. Massachusetts is the only New England state with this discriminatory defense still on the books. We are 1 of 2 states in the northeast that still allows this “defense”, the other is Pennsylvania. That is unacceptable. This should be a simple bill to draft and execute and I expect Beacon Hill to do just that. Outlaw the dangerous practice that allows murder to go unpunished. End the transgender/gay/LGBTQ “panic defense”.
