I am a Michigan constituent writing to urge you to refuse any further funding increases or blank-check appropriations for ICE and federal immigration enforcement operations until Congress imposes real oversight, clear limits, and accountability.
Yesterday’s fatal shooting in Minneapolis, in which a U.S. citizen was killed by federal immigration agents, is part of a disturbing pattern of escalating force being used against civilians. This is no longer about immigration policy. It is about the federal government operating with impunity inside American cities.
Congress has the power of the purse. If the administration will not stop, then the legislative branch must.
I am asking you to:
1. Oppose funding packages that expand or enable unchecked ICE/DHS operations
2. Demand independent investigations into recent shootings and use-of-force incidents
3. Condition future appropriations on enforceable rules, transparency, and civilian protections
4. Hold firm even if that requires a shutdown confrontation
This is a slippery slope. I want Michigan’s delegation to stand for the rule of law, human rights, and constitutional limits before more people are killed.
