Subject: Oppose the "Big Beautiful Bill" — Protect Working-Class Americans and True Fiscal Responsibility I am writing to strongly urge you to oppose the so-called "Big Beautiful Bill" being promoted by Republican leaders and Donald Trump. This bill is neither fiscally responsible nor morally just, and it will do lasting harm to millions of Americans while rewarding the wealthiest individuals and corporations with more tax breaks they do not need. There are two fundamental ways to balance a budget: reducing spending or increasing revenues. Unfortunately, Republican leadership has consistently demonstrated a preference for slashing revenues through tax cuts for high-income earners and the wealthy, while making up the shortfall by cutting essential programs relied on by working- and middle-class Americans. This approach has been the Republican playbook since the Reagan administration and has led us further from the equitable society envisioned during the New Deal era. The "Big Beautiful Bill" continues this harmful pattern. It would deprive an estimated 13.7 million Americans—including children, seniors, the disabled, and working-class individuals—of essential healthcare coverage. At the same time, it would extend the Trump tax cuts, costing an estimated $4.5 trillion over the next decade, and substantially increase defense spending without accountability or oversight. Balancing any budget, whether in a household, business, or government, requires wisdom and fairness. It is irresponsible to cut healthcare for the vulnerable while giving more to those who already have the most. Further, Donald Trump’s track record shows little concern for fiscal discipline: taxpayer money has been wasted on his frequent golf outings, personal family travel, and a proposed $50–100 million military parade to celebrate his birthday—a vanity project with no public benefit. Let us not forget the Trump tariffs, a hidden tax that has already raised the cost of living for working families by an estimated $2,800 or more annually. Stripping healthcare access on top of this will push countless Americans into financial distress, with many forced to choose between medical care and other necessities. True fiscal responsibility means: • Preserving programs that protect health, dignity, and opportunity. • Asking the wealthy and corporations to pay their fair share. • Investing in the public good, not private vanity. I urge you to reject the "Big Beautiful Bill" and instead champion a budget that uplifts working-class families, ensures a fair tax system, and holds the wealthy accountable to the nation that made their success possible. Sincerely,
