As elected representatives of this nation, you must act in this moment to cosponsor and sign the articles of impeachment against Donald Trump that were filed yesterday by John Larson. Trump’s unhinged pronouncements put the whole world in danger, and they threaten to disrupt the fragile global equilibrium that enables us all to live together on this imperfect planet. Have we lost our ability to recognize how inappropriate it is for a clearly deranged human being to have the power to wreak havoc on other countries of the world, let alone isolate us from our friends and allies? Has Congress lost its understanding of its role in providing checks and balances against the very “mad king” circumstance we find ourselves in? We are, as a nation, transfixed by the beauty and dignity of the Artemis mission and the words of its astronauts. They are the best of us — and our leaders used to strike the same tone of unity, kindness, curiosity and profound seriousness. Surely we have had enough of the petty, irrational, ill-informed, and malignantly narcissistic behavior of Donald Trump, as he openly threatens another sovereign nation with genocide. Surely there is enough now to warrant his removal. If not this, then what?????
